The design system saves time and money in the development of a digital service
How many times has your organization paid to develop the same button? Developing a user interface without a design system inevitably leads to duplicated work, a less consistent user experience, and higher development costs.
At the webinar, Hardi Niilo, Head of Design Systems, explained how a design system helps save time and money in the development process, as each component is developed only once.
The design system supports a unified user experience and brand identity. In addition, it facilitates collaboration between designers and developers and opens up new opportunities for automating the development process.
Among other things, Hardi will answer the following questions at the webinar:
- What is the real cost of developing UI components without a design system, when each product team has to design, develop, test, and document them repeatedly.
- What the parts of a design system are: UI components (Figma component library), reusable code components, documentation, and design tokens.
- How design tokens work, making design decisions machine-readable, and which new opportunities they open up (exporting code for design decisions, using AI development tools, a shared design system for multiple brands).
- How we created the functioning Estonian national design system Veera from a prototype in 7 months, which simplifies the development of national e-services. Which solutions we used to automate the synchronization of design and development in the project. You can read the project story of creating Veera in our blog.
- What the practical steps are for implementing a design system and where to start. How to avoid common mistakes and make the design system developer-friendly.
