IGDA Estonia GameCon and Hackathon – Great Presentations and 9 New Games

As you might have guessed from our last post, last week we had a massive IGDA game weekend here in Tallinn. The event started with a game conference on Thursday and continued with a hackathon on Friday.

The winner of the hackathon was Raging Bull, a different kind of bullfighting game where finally the bulls can have their revenge on matadors and spectators

The second place went to Heart Bot Escape where the player must guide a robot with a human heart. The third place went to Ivan & hoe where the player must fight forces of evil who are, naturally, attacking the princess.

Other games included Babyspeaker, Text Based Multiplayer RTS, Code2Kids, Powertrip 1000, Spacecraft and Orange Plague. Below you can also find our presentation from the event.

This was the first game hackathon in Estonia and we do believe it kicked the local game industry into high-gear. Where previously we had only a few active game studios, now we have about 60 people who just made their first prototype and got the taste of just how lucrative the game industry can be.

Besides making new games, the teams gained valuable input from workshops from international mentors and speakers. Among others the mentors included Marianna Krjakvina (Creative Mobile), Jarrod Epps (Cashplay), Eric Seufert (Wooga), Edvin Aedma (Teleglitch), Tarvo Topolev (Fortumo), Timo Herttua (Rovio), Ville Heijari (Playhaven), Rene Rebane (Trinidad Consulting), Kadri Ugand (Gamefounders) and Sonja Ängeslevä (Blackberry/IGDA Finland).
